Eating Disorders

Step 1. Questions

People who suffer from an eating disorder feel compelled to eat in very unhealthy ways. Eating disorders are serious. They may damage physical, mental, and emotional health.

For this e-Journal project, you will research and report on eating disorders. You may choose to write an overview of many eating disorders or to discuss one kind of eating disorder in depth.

Here are some questions to guide your research.
  • What are some common eating disorders, and what are they like? Who is most at risk for developing the eating disorder?
  • How can an eating disorder affect a person’s life? How does the person feel about him- or herself when suffering from an eating disorder?
  • What are signs that someone is developing an eating disorder?
  • What questions do you have about eating disorders?
As you visit the Web sites listed in Step 2, take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also use search engines to find other Web sites to visit, or research eating disorders at the library.

When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!

It’s My Life: Eating Disorders
Links from this page will lead to stories about teens affected by eating disorders. Other links offer advice on getting help for an eating disorder, and how to help a friend who is suffering. This useful Web site comes from PBS.
